본 연구는 직무 특성상 스트레스에 많이 노출되어 심각한 정서적 문제를 유발한다고 꾸준히 논의되어 온 경찰관의 직무스트레스가 우울에 미치는 영향을 알아보고 이 둘 사이의 조절 전략으로서 자아 존중감과 사회적 지지의 매개효과를 알아보고자 하였다.이를 위해 D,K 지역 경찰관 358명을 대상으로 자기보고식 설문지를 배부,수거하여 구조방정식 모형을 사용하여 분석하였다.연구 결과는 첫째,경찰관의 직무스트레스와 우울의 관계에서 자아 존중감의 매개효과가 검증되어 직무스트레스를 경험하더라도 자아 존중감이 높은 경찰관은 우울 성향이 낮다는 점을 시사하였다.둘째,경찰관의 직무스트레스는 사회적 지지를 통계적으로 유의미하게 설명하고 있으나 직무스트레스와 우울의 관계에 서의 사회적 지지의 매개효과는 나타나지 않았다.본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 경찰관의 직무스트레스와 우울을 이해하고 관리할 수 있는 교육 및 상담 개입의 시사점과 추후 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다

This study sought to find out the effects of job stress on depression of police officers, who have been consistently discussed as causing serious emotional problems due to their high exposure to stress due to their job characteristics, and to find out the mediated effects of self­respect and social support as a coordination strategy between the two. For this purpose, self­reporting questionnaires were distributed and collected to 358 police officers in Dand K areas and analyzed using a structural equation model. The results of the study first suggested that police officers with high self­esteem had a low tendency to be depressed even if they experienced job stress as the mediating effect of self­esteem has been verified in the relationship between job stress and depression. Second, the police officer's job stress explains social support statistically meaningfully, but there is no mediating effect of social support in the relationship between job stress and depression. Based on the results of this study, the implications of educational and counseling intervention to understand and manage police officers' job stress and depression and suggestions forfurther research were discussed.
